In today's work of Evangelization, the role of senior citizens or elderly people cannot be taken for granted. Like in the upstream, they go through the river of time and flow the water of wisdom, values and best practices towards to the younger generations in the downstream. People of different cultures and religions share the same respect and honor to them for their significant role in our families and societies. That's why in the same time, they become agents of inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogues.
Asian societies, including Thai, reserve special day for the elderly during the Songkran Day. It's impossible to think of new year without them as it's impossible to think of life without their presence. Based on this conviction, Thai Catholic church endorses all parishes and Catholic communities to spare enough time for the pastoral care for the elderly or senior citizens. Xavier Oratory offers the same care and sympathy for the elderly within Umphang district. In partnership with local medical volunteers, we make a constant visit to the elderly and their families, provide medical and survival kits, and organize useful gatherings for them. Some Catholic Charities like Caritas, COERR and Malta International give us financial and logistic supports for those different activities for the elderly.
